about us

Jess Moon, co-founder & ceo

Jess Moon co-founded Shadow Spark Publishing with Mandy Russell in 2019. She is a published author, editor, graphic designer, & podcaster. When not herding cats for SSP, she can be found in her kitchen perfecting the ideal crusty loaf, in her garden entreating the pollinators to tarry awhile, playing hour 1,237 of Stardew Valley, watching One Piece with her daughter, or moonlighting (pun intended) as Just Jess on The Pretty Little Podcast!, which she co-hosts with her husband, Chad.

Oh, and she monitors the SSP Twitter, Instagram, and Threads accounts.

Check out her infrequent posting on Instagram @just_jessmoon or her accidental hit tweets about Twister 2 @jhlmoon

Mandy Russell, co-founder & editorial director

Mandy Russell co-founded Shadow Spark Publishing with Jess Moon in 2019.  She has worn many hats in the House but is most often found editing manuscripts or working with the distributors.  She has been working with Jess on their long series The Alvertaen Axiom for over a decade now.  She hasn’t met a skull she didn’t covet and loves escaping into fictional worlds.

Azshure Raine, production manager

Her day job is sticking things to newborns, and by sticking things to newborns, she means hearing screens.

In her free time, she hangs out with her black cat, Luna, and keeps three small humans from killing each other. To maintain her sanity, she now writes. And she may or may not have a thing for apples.

She can be found on Twitter @Azshure13

Valerie Storm, managing editor

Valerie Storm was raised in Tucson, Arizona. Growing up, she fell in love with everything fantasy. When she wasn’t playing video games, she was writing. By age ten, she began to write her own stories as a way to escape reality. When these stories became a full-length series, she considered the path to sharing with other children & children-at/heart looking for a place to call home.

She can be found on Twitter @Valerie_Storm

Mirai Amell, royalty accountant

Mirai Amell is the pen name of a neuroscientist who believes in myths and magic as much as she trusts molecules and microscopes. When she is not doing science, or reading fantasy books, or watching anime, Mirai scribbles poems published in anthologies like From One Line Vol(s) 1-3, Wounds I Healed, and The Crow’s Quill magazine.

Currently, Mirai lives in Seattle, where she researches various brain things.

Mariah Norris, editor

Mariah Norris is a fantasy writer, artist, and symphonic metal enthusiast from the balmy Florida coast, where she lives with her husband, son, and three cats. When she isn’t writing, you’ll find her drawing portraits and fan art, dabbling in anything from gardening to candle making, or spending far too much time consuming fanfiction.

She can be found on Twitter @nevertherose or on her website, www.mariahnorris.com

Kaitlin Corvus, editor

Kaitlin Corvus is from Ontario, Canada. The north holds the best part of her. She writes about nobodies, monsters, and gutter glitter, loves the stars, the deep dark sea, and a good horror mystery.

Courtney Collins, editor

Courtney Collins grew up two doors down from the local library and crushed every summer reading challenge. She's worked in libraries and bookstores before deviating into a higher education career by day and a burlesque dancer by night. She's published extensively in her local town newspaper. Her own queerness and mother-loss influence the fantasy world created alongside her husband. Courtney and Clarke live in central Vermont with their children and an abundance of forests, her happy place.

She can be found on collinsauthors.com, including links to socials.

Erika McCorkle, social media

Erika McCorkle (she/her) is an avid world-builder and consumer of all things fantasy, whether that be books, video games, or anime. She has been developing the Pentagonal Dominion since the 90s and hopes to publish books taking place in that fantasy world for the rest of her life. She has a Bachelors of Science in Biology and works as a laboratory technician on the graveyard shift at her local blood bank. In other words, she’s a vampire.

Erika monitors the SSP Bluesky account along with Lorelei Matthews and can be found on Bluesky @KiraoftheWind.com, on Insta @kira_of_the_wind, or on her website, www.authormccorkle.com

Lorelei Matthews, social media

Lorelei Matthews is a new adult fantasy and supernatural author, living in the blurred spaces between light and dark, where grief is a love language, power always comes at a cost, and no one is ever purely hero or villain (because honestly, what’s the fun in that?).

With a BA in Creative Writing and English in her back pocket, Lorelei is the author of nightmare coda, featured in the dreamcaught anthology, with additional works to come. When she’s not dismantling fictional souls, she can be found spending time with her husband and children in the wilds of Colorado, obsessing over Doctor Who, vampires, video & board games, and loving the fictional villains she shouldn't.

Lorelei monitors the SSP Bluesky account along with Erika McCorkle and schedules all House posts across all social media platforms. She can be found on her website: www.loreleimatthews.com - Insta & Threads: @loreleimatthewswrites - Bluesky: @loreleimatthews.com
